HBO recently acquired the rights to De Lo Mio directed by Diana Peralta. The family drama will be reportedly available for streaming in November on HBO Max.
The film stars Sasha Merci, Darlene “Dee Nasty” Demorizi and Héctor Aníbal and follows two sisters who travel to visit their estranged brother. The two sisters hail from New York and travel to the Dominican Republic to not only meet their brother, but also to help clean out their family home before it is sold. There the family confronts their previously hidden emotions and come to terms with their past.
Of the HBO pickup, Peralta stated, “De Lo Mio is a universal story about staying connected with the people you love across borders and generations. I set out to create a love letter to my Dominican-American heritage with this film.”
The director added, “HBO is an amazing partner and I could not be more thrilled to work with them to celebrate my community and share De Lo Mio with a wider audience. It’s amazing to see an iconic company like HBO support Independent Film and also give a platform to AfroLatinx stories.”
This film marks Peralta’s directorial feature debut after her previous work on various short films.
