‘Hawaii Five-O’ Film In Development At Paramount With Destin Daniel Cretton In Talks To Direct

Based on the television property that first debuted in 1968 and was later rebooted in 2010, a Hawaii Five-O film is officially in the works.  After previous attempts to bring the story to the big screen have stalled, Paramount hopes Destin Daniel Cretton (Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will helm the project.

The project is in the early days, but the crew is being assembled as Chris Bremner and Noah Oppenheim have been tapped to pen the script.  Attached as a producer is Guymon Casady, who worked in tandem with the estate of Leonard Freeman, the original creator of the first iteration of the show.  The series debuted in 1968 and spanned 12 seasons, with Detective Captain Steve McGarrett being played by Jack Lord and Dan Williams being played by James MacArthur.  One of the trademarks of the show is the catchphrase “Book ‘em, Danno”.  In the revitalization of the show in 2010, McGarret was played by Alex O’Loughlin and Danno was played by Scott Caan.  They were joined in the cast by Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, with the show spanning 10 seasons.

The Hollywood Reporter has previously reported Charles Melton was being considered for a major role, with Deadline first reporting on the film’s development.  Cretton, who grew up in Maui, is also set to direct an upcoming live-action Naruto film.
