Haley Bennett has joined the cast as one of the leads in the adaptation of Paul Hawkin‘s The Girl on the Train. She joins Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow) and Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation).

Bennett appears set to play the role of Megan, one-half of the perfect couple that Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt) watches on her rides on the train. Rachel soon, however, finds herself entangled in the middle of a police investigation after she witnesses the murder of Megan on one of her trips. Ferguson will play the role of Anna. The Girl on the Train has been likened to Gone Girl for its thrilling and atmospheric mystery. The film is based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins. The DreamWorks production is currently casting the male leads.

Bennett was last seen on The Equalizer opposite Denzel Washington, and is currently filming The Magnificent Seven. She will also be featured in Warren Beatty‘s as of yet still untitled Howard Hughes bio as well as an upcoming Terrence Malick film (also untitled) centering around the Austin movie scene. Bennett previously appeared in Marly and Me (2007) and Gregg Araki’s 2010 indie Kaboom.

Tate Taylor (The Help) will serve as director while Erin Cressida Wilson (Men, Women and Children) wrote the screenplay.

The film is expected to be released some time in 2016.
