Guillermo del Toro’s Psychological Thriller ‘Nightmare Alley’ Releases Trailer

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the full trailer for director and co-writer Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley has been released by Searchlight Pictures. The film is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name, with a screenplay co-written by Kim Morgan and del Toro.

Nightmare Alley is del Toro’s first film since the Oscar-winning Shape of Water. The trailer teases a neo-noir psychological thriller. Bradley Cooper stars as the down-on-his-luck but charismatic “carny” Stanton Carlisle. At a traveling carnival, he meets Toni Collette’s clairvoyant Zeena and her mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn).

With the aid of psychiatrist Dr. Lilith Ritter (Blanchett), the duo plot a grift with some newly acquired knowledge. Their target is the dangerous tycoon Ezra Grindle, played by Richard Jenkins.

In the trailer, Carlisle admits under the pressure of a lie-detector test that he is a medium and can read minds “under the right circumstances.” But when asked if he is in contact with the beyond, Grindle responds as Carlisle is seen fake fainting in front of a crowd.

“We’ve had our fair share of snake charmers in the past. We deal with them,” Grindle says.

Other stars featured in Nightmare Alley include Collette, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, and Clifton Collins Jr. They appear in the trailer that depicts a story full of fire, money, violence, blood, and deception.

Nightmare Alley premieres in theaters on December 17. Check out the trailer below.
