Greg Russo to Write ‘Category 6’

New Line has tapped first-time scribe Greg Russo to write a script for the disaster movie Category 6 according to Deadline. The movie follows a large hurricane that ravages a town on the Atlantic Coast.

Category 6 appears to be loosely based on Superstorm Sandy, which destroyed much of the New Jersey and New York coast. Broken Road Productions, which had success in 2014 with the found footage disaster film Into the Storm, is behind the project.

Russo has had a lot of experience working on low-budget thrillers, many of which are currently in development or production. It’s likely that New Line will go in a similar direction this time around in terms of casting and special effects, as Into The Storm was a financial success due in part to its production budget.
