‘Green Room,’ Starring Patrick Stewart, Acquired by A24

Writer-director Jeremy Saulnier’s ultra-violent American crime thriller Green Room, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has been picked up for U.S. distribution rights by A24 Films, relatively new American film distribution company which was behind the U.S. theatrical release of recent movies such as Ex Machina, The Spectacular Now, and Spring Breakers. Saulnier previously wrote and directed the acclaimed thriller Blue Ruin.

The film revolves around a group of young punk rockers who find themselves trapped by a neo-Nazi group, lead by a villainous Patrick Stewart (X-Men), after witnessing a murder. The film also stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness), Imogen Poots (She’s Funny That Way), Alia Shawkat (Nasty Baby) and Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).

Green Room was produced by Broad Green in partnership with Film Science. This film premiered in the Directors Fortnight sidebar the 2015 Cannes Film Festival where it earned mostly favorable reviews. Next, the film will make its North American premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival as a part of the Midnight Madness sidebar. The intention is for A24 to put the film out in theaters in the spring of 2016.
