‘Gone Girl’ Adds Interesting Choices to Its Cast

The arrival of a new film from director David Fincher always unleashes some compelling news.  The twice Oscar-nominated auteur has always assembled interesting casts in his films, and has proven himself one of the greatest directors currently working.  His next film – the thriller Gone Girl – already made waves this summer on the casting announcements of Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in the leading roles. Now comes word that the ensemble is starting to fill out as well for his adaptation of the bestselling Gillian Flynn novel. Tyler Perry, according to Deadline, is confirmed to play Tanner Bolt, the attorney who represents Affleck’s Nick Dunne after his wife (played by Pike) suddenly disappears.  The multi-hyphenate and ever prolific Perry marks an interesting addition to Fincher’s world.  The last time Perry strictly acted in a film was last year’s commercial and critical bomb Alex Cross; however, when in his wheelhouse, the writer/director/actor/drag-star has been making hit films for the past decade.  Working with a filmmaker as respected as Fincher will mark his most high-profile work outside the Madea franchise.

Also set to appear in Gone Girl is Neil Patrick Harris.  The How I Met Your Mother star and much lauded awards show master of ceremonies is in negotiations to play Desi Collings, a former boyfriend to Pike’s missing woman.  Just as interesting a casting decision as that of Perry on paper, Harris is mainly associated with comedy; Harris will host the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 22nd.

Also set to appear are actors Kim Dickens (The Blind Side) and Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous.)  We will keep you up to date on any more eclectic casting decisions that may go down on Gone Girl.  The 20th Century Fox film is set to come out sometime in 2015.
