Golden Globes Winners: ‘Three Billboards’ Picks Up Four Including Best Picture

Seth Myers started tonight’s 75th annual Golden Globes ceremony with “Good evening ladies, and remaining gentlemen,” with his opening monologue interspersed with commentary on the perpetrators of sexual harassment in the film industry, including Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey. Several in the starry audience came wearing black, to protest sexual misconduct in Hollywood.

The Shape of Water received the most number of Golden Globe nominations and director Guillermo Del Toro took home the award for Best Director of a Motion Picture. The inter-species romance also won for Best Original Score.

Best Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy went to Greta Gerwig’s coming-of-age tale Lady Bird. Star Saoirse Ronan took home Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. This was Ronan’s third nomination and first Golden Globe win (she was previously nominated for 2015’s Brooklyn and 2007’s Atonement).

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was the big winner of the evening. It took home Best Motion Picture-Drama and its writer-director Martin McDonagh won the award for Best Screenplay. Frances McDormand picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actress in Drama. Best Supporting Actor in Any Motion Picture went to Sam Rockwell who played rogue police officer Dixon in the crime drama.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama went to Gary Oldman, just about unrecognizable in his starring role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Best Actor in Musical or Comedy went to James Franco in The Disaster Artist. Franco, who also directed, has gotten many positive reviews for his committed turn as Tommy Wiseau.

Allison Janney was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in any Motion Picture for her role in I, Tonya.

Coco won Best Animated Motion Picture. Best Original Song in Motion Picture went to This is Me, from The Greatest Showman. In the Fade, a revenge film from Germany, won Best Foreign Film.
