Golden Globes Critizied for Ignoring Black Movies

As a new award season rolls around one can expect to see a new slew of controversy as well. This time the Comic Book Resources has reported that the Golden Globes has snubbed many Black movies this year. Many significant Black lead movies like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and One Night in Miami did not receive the nominations in any of the best picture categories.

However the recording of Hamilton, which has a significantly non white cast, was nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy award, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 which tells an important Black story was nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama award. Also Soul has been nominated for Best Motion Picture Animated award.

Many black performers and filmmakers have been nominated in other categories as well. Blackfilm.com has posted a list highlighting every black person or significant movie that has been nominated on their website. Still the representation of people in color in film could be a lot better than what it is now.

Apparently the nominations and wins of the Golden Globes are not a great predictor of what movies get nominated or win at the Oscars. So maybe this year the Oscars will award the movies that got overlooked.
