Godzilla vs. King Kong Movie Could be Delayed

A sequel to Godzilla King of the Monsters is already being planned. This sequel will be called Godzilla vs. Kong and, as the title suggests, it would focus on the iconic kaiju Godzilla and equally iconic giant ape King Kong battling one another. This marks the first big crossover moment in Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse, which set 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and King of the Monsters in the same shared universe. However, these two movie monsters have already fought once before in the 1962 Japanese movie King Kong vs. Godzilla, which was directed by Ishirô Honda and starred Tadao Takashima, Kenji Sahara, Yû Fujiki.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be written and directed by Michael Dougherty and is supposed to come out some time in the year 2020. However, according to a Screen Rant article the movie might be delayed, possibly due to the poor financial performance and critical reception of Godzilla King of the Monsters. This would not be the first time Godzilla vs Kong was delayed. The movie’s initial release date was pushed back in order to avoid competition with Fast and Furious 9. As of right now this second delay has not been officially confirmed yet. Hopefully when Godzilla vs Kong does come out, it will be able to elevate the Monsterverse to kaiju-level acclaim.
