Illumination Entertainment, the force behind the mega-successful Despicable Me franchise (and their Minions), has a brand new animated flick heading to theaters just in time for the holidays – Sing. A candy-colored, musical comedy where anthropomorphic animals compete in a singing competition. A brand new trailer has been revealed – it, appropriately enough, debuted on Monday night’s episode of The Voice.
Written and directed by Garth Jennings (Son of Ranbow, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), Sing features an all-star voice ensemble that includes Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild) as well as Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Scarlett Johansson (Under the Skin), Seth MacFarlane (Ted), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), John C. Rielly (The Lobster), Tori Kelly and current SNL comics Leslie Jones, Jay Pharoah and Beck Bennett.
The premise follows a koala bear named Buster (voiced by McConaughey), who in an effort to help drive business to his struggling theater, spearheads a local singing competition; Zootopia (without the socio-political undercurrents) meets Pitch Perfect. Whatever the case, Sing lands in theaters on December 21st. Check out the latest trailer below.
