Gerard Butler to Return for Action Sequel ‘Night Has Fallen’

Gerard Butler has confirmed that the Has Fallen franchise has not yet fallen with the upcoming entry Night Has Fallen. Butler will return as Mike Banning, a former Army Ranger who worked as a protective agent with the secret service.

Ric Roman Waugh and Robert Kamen will write the script which Roman Waugh will direct. Roman Waugh also directed the most recently released film in the Has Fallen franchise, Angel Has Fallen. Kamen is known for writing the 1997 sci-fi action film, The Fifth Element, and the Liam Neeson-led action thriller, Taken. Millennium Media will launch sales for the new film at the virtual American Film Market this week.

The previous films in the franchise, Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen, have taken in a total of more than $520M at the global box office. Although the films haven’t seen the best critical reception, Angel Has Fallen earned the highest user ratings of the three.

Butler stars in the upcoming disaster film, Greenland, which is also being directed by Roman Waugh. The film, which will have Butler playing a father struggling to keep his family alive amidst a cataclysmic natural disaster, is set to come out December 18.
