Gerard Butler Reprising His Role In ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ In Live-Action Remake

Universal Pictures is currently in production for a live-action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon. Familiar faces, or rather voices, will return to the screen for the new movie. According to DeadlineGerard Butler will reprise his role as Hiccup’s father, Stoick, from the original feature.

Gerard Butler is known for his roles in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Dracula 2000 (2000), and The Phantom of the Opera (2004). Mason Thames and Nico Parker are set to join Butler, with Thames playing Hiccup and Parker playing Astrid.

Animator and director Dean DeBlois will be directing, writing, and producing the new film. DeBlois is known for his work co-writing and directing Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and the original How To Train Your Dragon movies.

How To Train Your Dragon follows the story of misfit Hiccup from the island of Berk in a community that fights dragons as a way of life. Looking to prove himself as a true Viking and live up to his father Stoick’s expectations, things become difficult for Hiccup once he befriends a dragon named Toothless.

Marc Platt is producing the live-action remake for his production company Marc Platt Productions with president Adam Siegel. Universal has hired VP of Production Lexi Barton to oversee the project.

The film is set to be in theaters June 13, 2025.
