A project that has been floating around for over 20 years has finally been given a release date. Gemini Man, an upcoming film by Ang Lee, has been given an October 2019 release date by Paramount.
Gemini Man was a project that began in 1997 at Disney, but failed to make through to production. The film idea had been stuck in limbo for a long amount of time mainly because of the lack of suitable technology for the core of the film. The film focuses on an older assassin, played by Will Smith (Suicide Squad, Men In Black franchise), who must fight against a younger, more “perfect” version of himself. The difficulties of the film stemmed from having the same actor play an older and younger character, but with current technologies and the new “de-aging” programming, Gemini Man has finally been greenlit.
Lee is no slouch when it comes to visually stunning films, with Life of Pi being one of his most ambitious and beautiful films to date. Lee is being backed by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Media, while Paramount holds onto the distribution rights. We are very interested to see if Gemini Man can convince audiences that the two assassins are the same person from different times, with a variety of films, including 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, completing such feats.
