‘Friday the 13th’ Writers Pitch Possible New Horror Franchise

Jason Voorhees in New Line Cinema’s 2009 remake of ‘Friday the 13th’.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, writers of New Line Cinema’s 2009 Friday the 13th remake and the 2003 film Freddy vs Jason, have reportedly pitched the studio with a brand new horror film. While the project is being kept secret, we do have a few pieces of information. For example, we know that the film will not be part of the microbudget and found-footage trend (Cloverfield haters need not worry). We have also been told that the writers and studio seem to think there is franchise potential in the idea.

Other than those minor details we know that Chris Bender, J. C. Spink, and Jake Weiner of the New Line collective BenderSpink will be producing. BenderSpink has produced films such as The Ring, Red Eye, and The Butterfly Effect, so a new horror franchise should be right up their alley.

While Shannon and Swift are best known for their contributions to the existing Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises, it will be an exciting change of pace to see them create an original franchise of their own. We will be sure to keep you informed as more details of the project will undoubtedly begin to surface.
