Francis Ford Coppola Shows Off New Look At ‘Megalopolis’

Francis Ford Coppola has unveiled a first look into Megalopolis, the director’s newest film endeavor. Coppola shared the photo directly to his Instagram.

Known for some of the most acclaimed films of all time, such as The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, Megalopolis takes place in a recently devastated New York, leaving one architect determined to rebuild the city better than ever. But before he can implement any changes, he has to face the city’s corrupted mayor if he hopes to make a difference.

As Collider points out, the 84-year-old director took inspiration for the story from the conflict between Lucius Sergius and Marcus Tullius Cicero. Collider also observes that the image posted to Coppola’s instagram shows a rainy alleyway in New York, with a deteriorating monument supported on one of the surrounding buildings.

Starring in the film is Adam Driver, alongside Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Shia LaBeouf, Talia Shire, and Giancarlo Esposito.

Megalopolis has been a passion project for Coppola for many years. First conceiving the idea in the 80’s, Coppola had to put it on the back burner when no studio would finalize a deal for production. After using $120 million out of his own pocket, he was able to get the ball rolling, culminating in March 2023, when filming was finished on the project.

Megalopolis does not have a set release date currently, but the director intends for it to come out in 2024.
