Florence Pugh To Star in Apple Studios ‘Dolly’

Apple has acquired the rights to Dolly after a “bidding war” and Academy Award-nominee Florence Pugh is set to star in it along with Vanessa Taylor and Drew Pearce to write the script. Although the company was given the rights, Apple has not given the go to start filming as it does not have a director and there is no set script.

Dolly is a sci-fi courtroom drama inspired by Elizabeth Bear’s story in which a robotic “companion doll” who kills its owner but then shocks the world when claiming she is not guilty and wants a lawyer.

Florence Pugh who is currently Don’t Worry Darling, is best known for her roles in Little Women and Midsommar. Drew Pearce has worked on Hotel Artemis and co-writer of Iron Man 3 and Hobbs & Shaw. Vanessa Taylor is best known for screenwriting Divergent and The Shape of Water, who she with co-wrote with Guillermo del Toro. Her most recent work includes the Netflix adaptation of Hillbilly Elegy starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams.

Apple has been working on expanding the company’s catalog of original movies and shows, in addition to Dolly, Apple TV+ will be releasing Anthony and Joe Russo’s new film Cherry starring Tom Holland.
