After the success of last year’s Booksmart, Olivia Wilde has a new film in development with New Line Cinema, a psychological thriller set in a 1950s California Utopian community known as Don’t Worry Darling. Already the film has just announced it’s cast today, which includes Florence Pugh, Shia LaBeouf and Chris Pine.
Not much has been revealed on who will be playing who in Wilde’s film, though it’s been stated that Florence Pugh will be playing the lead. Wilde will also have a supporting role in the film alongside directing and producing it. The script was written by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, with Booksmart co-writer Katie Silberman working on rewrites. Shane and Carey Van Dyke will produce the film alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, as well as Catherine Hardwicke.
Despite not much has been revealed about the film yet, Don’t Worry Darling already seems very promising just from its cast and crew alone. Wilde made an excellent directorial debut with Booksmart, one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2019, so her taking on a different genre entirely will certainly be interesting to see. This also boosts well for the cast, as Pugh garnered a lot of attention last year for her roles in both Midsommar and Little Women, LaBeouf saw a major comeback with Honeyboy and The Peanut Butter Falcon, and Pine is set to star in Wonder Woman 1984 later this year. Thus, Don’t Worry Darling seems like another good choice for their respective film careers.
No release date has been set for Don’t Worry Darling so far.
