Flash Standalone ‘Flashpoint’ is Rumored to Include Major Appearance by Wonder Woman

It looks as though Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman is gradually replacing Ben Affleck‘s Batman as the DC Universe’s equivalent to Iron Man, a.k.a. the superhero tentpole’s rallying leader. In an article by Forbes, the publication claims that Wonder Woman is slated to appear in Flashpoint. If proven true, that means we will have seen her twice this year, in her standalone and in Justice League, and will again see her at least two more times, in 2019 for her standalone sequel and in 2020 for The Flash’s (Ezra Miller) solo outing.

According to Forbes, “Gadot is also expected to reprise her role as Wonder Woman in the upcoming production of Flashpoint, which will be Flash’s solo movie but is also more of another superhero team-up featuring several additional DC superheroes. Flashpoint is currently scheduled to release in 2020. So we’ll see Wonder Woman twice this year, again in 2019, and in 2020. That’s an average of one appearance every year, and it means Wonder Woman could potentially appear in as many different films as Batman will over the course of the next few years in the DCEU.”

This is exciting news for the DCEU as well as superhero movie fans, as Wonder Woman has been the standout character in the franchise since her small appearance in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. With Wonder Woman breaking record after record at the box office this year, including her more is a no-brainer, and is already becoming highly apparent to the studio, featuring her heavily in the first trailer for Justice League.

As for the “superhero team-up” aspect of Flashpoint, the lesser known hero Cyborg (Victor Stone) was attached to the film back when Rick Famuyiwa was also attached to direct. Stone is still listed in the IMDB cast, so his place in the film’s plot may still be safe — we will just hold our cumulative breaths to see if Affleck decides to answer the call. The film is also in need of a director, so until that happens, most of everything will likely be on the fence.

As this is only speculation at this point, we hope Gadot’s involvement proves true. Let’s just hope that Warner Bros. and DC don’t over-utilize her to the point where she becomes an accessory or crutch to their every film. Flashpoint will also feature appearances by Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Billy Crudup as Barry Allen’s (a.k.a. The Flash) father.
