First Trailer for Marvel’s ‘Morbius’ Connects to ‘Spider-Man’ with Michael Keaton’s Return as Vulture

Today fans get a first look at the newest release from Sony and Marvel after Spider-Man: Far From Home. Jared Leto stars as the title character in Morbius, anti-hero film in line with 2018’s Venom. This first trailer gives us more than a hint of what’s to come, with many faces new to the franchise including Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, and Matt Smith. One notable reappearance from earlier Sony Marvel films is Michael Keaton, who will once again take on his role of the Vulture.

The trailer starts off with introducing Dr. Michael Morbius, an intelligent doctor with a troubled past and a rare blood disease who is searching for a cure. His clock is ticking as his condition worsens and so he is getting desperate for something to prolong his life, turning towards things that are “not exactly legal.” His search takes him and his team to a bat-filled cave where he finds something that transforms him. He now feels “more alive than ever” with abilities like increased strength and speed and echolocation, but at the cost of becoming increasingly bloodthirsty.

The trailer ends by showing Morbius meeting the Vulture, hinting that the two may be working together in the film, and confirming that it is indeed set in the same universe as Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man films.

Morbius will be Leto’s second time in an anti-hero superhero film after Suicide Squad, where his role of the Joker was discontinued. Now he has another chance to make a name for himself in this genre and possibly make more appearances as the character if the film succeeds.

The trailer can be seen below and Morbius will hit theaters in Summer 2020.
