While much of the 92nd annual Oscars coverage has emphasized its snubs, the list of nominees for this year’s ceremony includes a handful of history makers.
Not only did Parasite become the first South Korean film to receive nominations Best Picture and Best International Feature Film, it also saw director Bong Joon-Ho become the first South Korean nominee for Best Director. Additional Oscar nominations for the film include Best Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Original Screenplay.
Little Women‘s Best Actress nominee Saoirse Ronan additionally made history Monday morning, becoming the second youngest four-time Oscar nominee ever at just 25 years old. Jennifer Lawrence continues to hold the number one spot, earning her fourth nomination for her lead role in 2016’s Joy at 25, though she was four months younger than Ronan’s current age of 25 years and nine months. Ronan has earned previous nominations for Best Actress in 2016 for Brooklyn and 2018 for Lady Bird, as well as scoring a nom for Best Supporting Actress at just 13 for 2007’s Atonement.
Scarlett Johansson also became one of just a dozen actors to ever receive two nominations in the same year, scoring noms for Best Actress in Marriage Story and Best Supporting Actress in Jojo Rabbit. And, as if this wasn’t enough to boot, the actress is a first (and second) time nominee. The last to score two nominations in the same year was Cate Blanchett in 2008, for Elizabeth: The Golden Age and I’m Not There.
