First Trailer for ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’

Long live the king. The first trailer for Michael Dougherty‘s Godzilla: King of the Monsters has trundled into plain view, and it’s a sight to behold. Serving as a continuation of Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, King of the Monsters follows 2014’s Godzilla and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island in showcasing mammoth, titanic monsters who wreak havoc on the big screen. The trailer is set beautifully to Claude Debussy’s Clair de lune, while brief glimpses of famous leviathans, concise narration, and tight editing set the tone for what is sure to be an all-out, no-holds-barred melee.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters pits Godzilla against an array of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. Of course, what would Godzilla be without puny humans scurrying about amidst the carnage, and the story follows the efforts of crypto-zoological agency Monarch as it pits all available resources against ancient, colossal creatures. Heroic Godzilla will battle various foes, including Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. These ancient super-species, myths brought to life to battle for dominance, threaten humanity’s very existence, and some humans will surely work to fuel the chaos.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters stars Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Ziyi Zhang, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Thomas Middleditch, and Ken Watanabe.

It’s a long wait until May 31, 2019, but hopefully the stunning images in the below trailer will make it easier to withstand this ultimately brief Godzilla-free interval.

Christopher Aanerud: I graduated from the University of Georgia with an English degree. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, playing video games, singing badly to pop songs in the car, eating delicious food, and drinking fine alcoholic beverages. I play basketball when my crippling knee and back pain allows, and I try to hit the gym on a regular basis. I have a son and a sugar glider, and when I'm not combing the internet for breaking news I am likely traveling or riding my Razor scooter.
