First Trailer for Eli Roth’s ‘The Green Inferno’

Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) directs his first film since the sequel to his euro-trash horror fiasco. Instead of the isolation of a cabin  in the woods or the horrors one can experience in a European boarding house, here we are placed in South America amidst a very strange tribe in the Amazon.

As we can see…clearly…this will be another case of Eli Roth’s trademark horror. There’s sure to be plenty of gory, horrible deaths sure to make us second guess that hot dog at concessions. Along with Roth for the ride are actors and actresses who are relatively unknown, another Roth standard. One interesting piece of casting is Daryl Sabara, formerly of the Spy Kids movies.

Right off the bat we can notice there are possible similarities to the cult classic Cannibal Holocaust, which was a very rough cult film often considered one of the most disturbing films of all time. It seems as though Roth might have been inspired by that film. And considering his history, he may even be trying to one up it.

With a low budget and a September  release, could this film be a hit? Roth’s films, traditionally, haven’t torn up the box office, but they have been profitable. September is generally a lull between the summer movies and the Oscar fodder (although Toronto does kick off the fall festival run on September 4th), which begs the question: Does The Green Inferno have a shot to make a run at the top of the box office charts? There are sure to be fresh release announcements between now and then, but as of this moment, the competition isn’t looking especially strong.

The Green Inferno hits theaters September 5th.
