Primetime is set to star Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, following the rise of his television series To Catch A Predator. Lance Oppenheim (Renfaire, Some Kind of Heaven) directed the project that has a log line that describes the film as following, “…a journalist who takes on an underworld of crime and changes television forever.”
The original To Catch A Predator TV series was apart of Dateline NBC, a true crime series that had the objective of outing suspected child predators who attempted to make contact with “decoy” children online. While it is unclear what the film will entail in its entirety and if it will delve into the issues that surrounded the show in terms of the ultimate compromising of the judicial process, the trailer highlights the early days of Chris Hansen. The trailer is split into 4 screens, with the first thing sticking out is Pattinson pulling off uncanny voice work in his portrayal of Hansen. Deadline highlighted some of the classic Hansen dialogue when prodding a suspect on the show.
“What would have happened if I wasn’t here? You see how this looks, right?” Hansen asks. “At the end of the day, a man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Would you agree?” Pattinson’s TV host later asks, “Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC — and you’re able to be a part of television history.”
One theory is that Primetime will share similarities with 2025 documentary Predators from David Osit, which examined the ethical implications of the original phenomenon. The film Primetime is also set to star Phoebe Bridgers, Merritt Wever, Sean Bridgers, Skyler Gisondo, and Matthew Maher. Those producing the film are Brighton McCloskey, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Ari Aster, Fred Berger, and Lars Knudsen. Ajon Singh penned the script for the film.
While Primetime doesn’t have an official release date, the film is expected some time in late 2026. See the first official teaser below.
