Based on the famous novel by Thomas Hardy, Far From the Madding Crowd tells the story of the young, beautiful, and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan from Drive) as she engages in three separate romantic relationships – one with a poor farmer (Matthias Schoenaerts, Rust and Bone), another with a handsome Sergeant (Tom Sturridge, Waiting for Forever), and the last with a wealthy and most eligible bachelor (Michael Sheen, Midnight in Paris).
The above teaser elegantly portrays the themes of the film. We see Bathsheba in various stages of her relationships with each of her suitors, featuring a single line of dialogue from all three actors while Mulligan remains silent, conveying her wills with only a look. Instead of dialogue for the film’s protagonist, we hear her voice in the track running throughout the teaser in a song titled “Let No Man Steal Your Thyme,” performed by Mulligan and Sheen. With Mulligan’s tones permeating each image and accompanying each of her knowing looks, we get a pure sense of her character’s independence and ability to move the story as well as the men.
Danish director Thomas Vinterberg (Oscar-nominated The Hunt) captained the love story with an adapted screenplay by David Nicholls (One Day). Far From the Madding Crowd is slated for a May 1, 2015 release. Meanwhile, Mulligan will next be seen alongside Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter in the early-feminist historical drama Suffragette.
