First Photos Of Netflix’s ‘Scoop’ Highlight Devotion To Real-Life Interview

Netflix has released the first official pictures from an upcoming film Scoop, which dramatizes Newsnight’s 2019 interview with Prince Andrew and Emily Maitlis. The photographs reveal scenes faithfully recreated, with Rufus Sewell portraying Prince Andrew and Gillian Anderson as Maitlis.

This so-called “car-crash” interview saw Prince Andrew discussing his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The film, based on the book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews by Sam McAlister, explores how the interview was secured and delves into the behind-the-scenes drama.

In one photograph, Sewell and Anderson are shown walking through a recreation of Buckingham Palace, wearing outfits identical to those in the real interview. Another picture recreates the interview itself, addressing Prince Andrew’s connections to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The film, set to stream on Netflix in the spring, aims to provide an inside look into the women who broke through Buckingham Palace’s establishment to secure the “scoop of the decade.”

Scoop also stars Billie Piper as former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, Keeley Hawes as Prince Andrew’s former private secretary Amanda Thirsk, and Romola Garai as Esme Wren, who led Newsnight at the time of the interview. The movie is written by Peter Moffat, known for BBC One drama Silk.

Amazon Prime Video is producing a three-part series based on Emily Maitlis’s memoirs, with Michael Sheen reported to play Prince Andrew and Ruth Wilson as Maitlis.

Andrew Stewart: Andrew studied Mechanical Engineering at Santa Clara University before pivoting towards a career in screenwriting. He is passionate about the entertainment industry and hopes to use his technical knowledge to create complex, intellectual stories that fit the modern age.
