After much anticipation, the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve‘s star-studded Dune adaptation has been released by Warner Brothers and Legendary, giving us a first taste of the moody sci-fi adaptation from one of the most popular sci-fi books of all time.
The film follows Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), who has a prophetic dream featuring a mysterious woman (Zendaya) and a terrible crusade, before he embarks on a journey to a dangerous planet to save his family. The planet, Arrakis, contains a valuable natural resource that enhances mental abilities and space travel, leading to conflict for his father, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), who is struggling to keep control. Paul Atreides is put to the test on his way to protect his family, challenging his abilities to withstand pain, fear, and hold his own in battle on Arrakis. On this new dangerous planet, he even must confront the massive sandworm, which we see a glimpse of at the end of this new trailer.
The cast also includes Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, and Javier Bardem.
Director Denis Villeneuve made a name for himself with other major films including Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and Sicario.
This first Dune film, scheduled for December 18, 2020, will cover the first half of the book by Frank Herbert, while the second, release date TBD, will cover the rest. A prequel series is also in the works called Dune: The Sisterhood.
