Final ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ Trailer Shows That They DON’T Wanna Be Like Us

“I did not start this war, but I will finish it.”

20th Century Fox has just released the final theatrical trailer and poster for the much anticipated third installment of the Planet of the Apes reboot/prequel trilogy, War for the Planet of the Apes.

Directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, The Batman), the film follows the ape leader Caesar, played by Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings franchise, Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), as he and his fellow apes are forced into war with humanity and a ruthless Colonel played by Woody Harrelson (Zombieland, No Country For Old Men).

As made evident in this trailer and the ones preceding it, this will be the darkest installment of the already dour rebooted Apes franchise. Seeing that this will be the probable end of the prequel trilogy, this film may show the final steps of Caesar and his apes’ complete domination of the planet, which will lead to the future world portrayed in the original 1968 film where Charlton Heston will lament that “THEY BLEW IT UP!!”

War for the Planet of the Apes will also star Judy Greer (Jurassic World, 13 Going on 30), Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Fantastic), and Terry Notary (Kong: Skull Island)

War for the Planet of the Apes will wage war in theaters on July 14th.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
