Marvel Actor Powers Boothe Passes Away at 68

Prominent television actor Powers Boothe passed away in his sleep Sunday night at the age of 68. Known early on in his career for his start in Westerns and Shakespeare adaptations, the actor since had enjoyed a full career.

Most recently, Boothe appeared in The Avengers and the television series Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Gideon Mallick, a member of the World Security Council who was later revealed to be the head of the villainous (and Nazi-sourced) Hydra organization. His supervillainry began much earlier when he voiced Gorilla Grodd for the 2002-2003 animated Justice League series. Boothe also appeared in the television series Nashville as the father of Raina James (Connie Britton).

The late actor is known for recurring roles on such television shows as 24 and Deadwood, and won an Emmy for his starring role in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. Some of his popular film work includes roles in both Sin City films, TombstoneFrailty, and U-Turn.

Boothe is survived by his wife, Pam Cole, and two children.
