Female-Driven ‘Ocean’s Eight’ Lands a Release Date

With the cast set and production nearing its start date, Warner Bros. has officially put it’s upcoming all-female reboot Ocean’s Eight on the calendar. The film – featuring an all star cast that includes Oscar winners Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway – is slated to open on June 8, 2018.

Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) directs the project and co-penned the screenplay with Olivia Milch. The action comedy continues the tradition laid out by Steven Soderbergh’s highly successful Ocean’s trilogy, which itself was spawned from the original 1960 Rat Pack caper. The “eight” will be Bullock (Gravity), Blanchett (Carol), Hathaway (The Intern), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Helena Bonham Carter (Alice Through the Looking Glass), Sarah Paulson (Blue Jay), Rihanna (Battleship) and Awkwafina (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising). Soderbergh is serving one of the film’s producers.

Warner Bros. previously had the June 8th release date laid out for an undisclosed event film. As of now, Ocean’s Eight will open against Paramount’s Transfomers 6. The 2018 summer movie season is apparently already underway.
