‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ No Longer Filming in UK After Positive COVID-19 Test

Fantastic Beasts 3, the Harry Potter spin-off from Warner Bros the production has been put on pause in the UK after an unknown team member tested positive for COVID-19.

Warner Bros. sent Deadline the following statement:

“A team member from Fantastic Beasts 3 has tested positive for COVID-19. The diagnosis was confirmed as a result of required and ongoing testing that all production employees receive, and the team member is currently in isolation. Out of an abundance of caution, ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ paused production and will be back up in accordance with safety guidelines.”

Filming was supposed to start in March 2020, but that was when the pandemic hit the world hard, so it was forced to be delayed to September. Due to the positive test, the release of the film has pushed it back to Summer 2022.

The pausing of the film isn’t something new for the production of Fantastic Beasts 3. Actor Johnny Depp who played the Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald was asked to step down from the role with agreement from Depp after he lost his libel suit against the UK tabloid The Sun. Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Doctor Strange) has replaced Depp for the part.

It is unclear if this is a similar incident to what happened with Robert Pattinson and the crew on The Batman or if this person was in contact with crew members.
