EuropaCorp has stepped up and acquired worldwide rights to Miss Sloane, a soon-to-be shot, potentially very hot button gun control drama set to star Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty). The film sold, ahead of its 2016 production start, as one of the big packages of the continuing Toronto Film Festival. Oscar nominated filmmaker John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) is set to direct.
The film centers around the efforts of a lobbyist pushing for stronger federal legislation for gun ownership. Written by first-time scribe Jonathan Perera, Miss Sloane will certainly be topical considering the the issue of gun control is such a heavily debated and heavily polarizing issue in the wake of several recent mass shootings in this country (including one this past summer in a movie theater). It will be interesting to see if Miss Sloane can make it into theaters sometime next year, when the issue will certainly be one of the most debated in the coming presidential year. EuropaCorp CEO Chrstophe Lambert stated,“The film’s subject matter of gun control is an incredibly important issue in today’s world. John Madden and Jessica Chastain bring with them such a high level of artistry, making Miss Sloane a perfect addition to the EuropaCorp slate.”
In the meantime, Chastain has a completed film in Toronto this year- the highly anticipated Ridley Scott sci-fi drama The Martian– that film will hit theaters on October 2nd. She will then be seen in Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak alongside Tom Hiddleston (Thor) and Mia Wasikowska (Maps to the Stars) which hit theaters on October 16th. The always busy actress also has The Zookeeper’s Wife on the horizon, drama co-starring Golden Globe nominated actor Daniel Brühl (Rush) as well as The Huntsman; both of which are expected some time next year.
Madden is coming off the spring hit The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The director previously collaborated with Chastain on the 2010 thriller The Debt.The
