Emma Thompson’s Victorian Drama ‘Effie Gray’ Acquired by Adopt Films

Emma Thompson’s (Love Actually) Victorian biopic Effie Gray, for which she wrote her first original screenplay, has been picked up by Adopt Films, according to Deadline. Dakota Fanning (Man on Fire) stars as the titular character, who as a teenager enters into a mysterious six-year marriage with the established art critic John Ruskin.

Directed by Richard Laxton (Life & Lyrics), the film has already been released in both the UK and Ireland, and will see its U.S. debut in the spring of 2015.

Thompson has vast experience with this particular era – evidenced by her Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for 1995’s Sense and Sensibility – and will most likely draw an audience eager to see the writer/actress put her own spin on the genre. Thompson can currently be heard as the narrator for Jason Reitman’s latest movie Men, Women & Children, and will next act as screenwriter for a remake of My Fair Lady.

Thompson also stars in Effie Gray along with Tom Sturridge (Waiting for Forever), who plays an artist and second love interest for Fanning. Check out the trailer below.
