Elsie Chapman’s YA Novel ‘Caster’ Gets ‘Into the Dark’ Maggie Levin to Write Movie Adaptation at Paramount

News broke Monday that Maggie Levin will be writing the script for the adaptation of Elsie Chapman YA novel Caster for Paramount. Deadline confirmed the news.

The story of Caster revolves around Aza Wu, who is aware that true magic is hazardous and unlawful. Shire, her sister, was murdered by casting. Everything has a price to be paid. Aza feels as though everything in her life has a price. Aza’s sister had been casting for money to pay off Saint Willow, the gang leader that governs her part of Lotusland, and now the debt rests squarely on her shoulders. Aza must step in to safeguard the heritage of Wu Teas, the teahouse that has been in her family for centuries, now that Shire is no longer alive. Aza enters an underground casting competition in which she must compete.

Levin has directed an episode of Hulu’s Into the Dark and is the second unit director for Blumhouse’s upcoming horror film The Black Phone. Levin is currently writing the TriStar sequel untitled Labyrinth project.

Caster is still in its very early stages of development.
