Based on the novel by True Detective mastermind Nic Pizzolatto, RLJE Films’ Galveston is nearly ready for prime time. After premiering at SXSW 2018 to positive reviews and good buzz, the official trailer for the crime drama has arrived to darken your day. Directed by Paris-born Mélanie Laurent (who also penned the screenplay), the film stars Elle Fanning, Lili Reinhart, Ben Foster, and Beau Bridges.
After escaping a set up, a hitman with a terminal illness named Roy Cady (Foster) returns to his hometown of Galveston, TX where he plots his revenge. With a stranger in tow (Fanning) from a chance meeting, the two work together as they run from their past crimes and seek to take down a powerful man (Bridges) who profited off of their misery. Set in the 1980’s, the noirish crime-thriller storyline uses Cady’s lung cancer as a catalyst for his redemption. Filmed in Savannah, GA, the movie is getting high marks for its strikingly attractive cinematography, smart direction, and brilliant lead performances.
