As the Oscars are gradually approaching, more and more films are being put forth for recognition at the annual awards. Three categories in particular have their finalized list of considerable candidates, and they’ve been released by the Academy themselves.
One category with a complete list of considered films is that of Best Animated Feature. Earlier this year, at the 96th Academy Awards, the winner for Best Animated Feature was acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film, The Boy And The Heron.
Thirty-one films have been submitted this year, which reportedly is a slightly smaller number than last year’s 33 submissions. These features include Transformers One, Ultraman Rising, The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim, and box office mega-hit Inside Out 2. The first Inside Out was also nominated for best picture back in 2016, and wound up winning.
169 films were put forth in the category of Best Documentary Feature. Last year’s winner in this category was 20 Days In Mariupol, Mstyslav Chernov’s in-depth look at the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in the city of Mariupol.
Some of the titles up for consideration this year include Bad Actor: A Hollywood Ponzi Scheme, Welcome To Babel, and Music By John Williams, among many others. Variety, who reported on this initially, also included a complete list of eligible films across all three categories.
The final category is that of Best International Feature Film, which went to Zone Of Interest last year.
Across 85 countries, some of the films on the list are Emilia Pérez, coming out of France, Kneecap from Ireland, and The Girl With The Needle from Denmark.
