‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Receives Deserved Sequel Treatment

The extremely overlooked 2014 science fiction action film, Edge of Tomorrow, which performed mediocre at the box office but found success with critics as well as audiences after its theatrical release, is finally getting the follow up it deserves. A sequel to the film is currently in development at Warner Bros.

Edge of Tomorrow followed a military public relations employee (Cruise) who is forced into soldiery during an invasion of deadly and combat efficient aliens. Upon dying in battle, he wakes to find himself repeating the previous day over again. Stuck in a time loop, he tries to learn more about the alien race they are pitted against as well as convince a high ranking soldier (played by Blunt) to help him defeat them.

American film writer, Matthew Robinson, has been hired to pen the script and previously wrote 2014’s May the Best Man Win and the 2009 Ricky Gervais comedy, The Invention of Lying. It was reported that if Robinson delivers a sufficient script then Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt will return to reprise their roles from the first movie and Doug Liman will direct.

Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
