‘Dune: Part 2’ is About to Begin Production

The sequel to the highly regarded Dune is about to begin productionDune: Part 2 is being partially filmed in Altivole, Italy — the same area in which the original three-time Academy Award-winning picture was shot. The bulk of production will begin on July 21st in Budapest, Hungary — another city where the original movie was filmed.

One of the locations rumored to be included in the new film is the Brion Tomb in Italy. The tomb was designed by Brian Scarpa in the late 1960s through the 1970s. The structure includes a garden, a chapel, a reflecting pool, and a catacomb. All of these features within the Brion Tomb look and sound like they will fit the Dune aesthetic.

Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin are all scheduled to return to their roles in this new film. The sequel’s new cast includes Léa Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Austin Butler. Denis Villeneuve will return as director for the sequel. Aside from Dune, Villeneuve is best known for his work on films like Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival.

Dune: Part 2 is scheduled to be released late next year on November 17th, 2023.
