Colin Trevorrow, the director of the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel, Jurassic World, is moving forward with his next project, Intelligent Life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks has acquired the sci-fi thriller, which Trevorrow wrote with Derek Connolly and will also be directing. Intelligent Life is a Jurassic World reunion of sorts, as Trevorrow and Connolly also wrote the script for the latter movie and will be reuniting with Jurassic producers Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg on the new film, with Trevorrow producing and Connolly executive producing.
Not much is known about the plot of Intelligent Life, though it is reportedly a reworking of an older project called The Ambassador, which Trevorrow and Connolly were originally developing as a follow-up to their 2012 indie comedy Safety Not Guaranteed. The Ambassador was the story of a man who works in a UN department devoted to extraterrestrial contact and falls in love with a woman who turns out to be an alien.
Following the success of Safety Not Guaranteed, which won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2012 Sundance Festival, Trevorrow and Connolly were hired to write an entirely new script for Jurassic World, which had been in development for years and is now set for a June 12, 2015 release. With DreamWorks’ acquisition of Intelligent Life, the creative pair will look to continue their mainstream success.
