DreamWorks Animation Adds Co-Director for ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’

Jennifer Yuh, who helmed the successful Kung Fu Panda 2, will have some assistance in the director’s chair on DreamWorks Animation’s follow-up Kung Fu Panda 3, per Deadline. According to sources, Yuh requested that Alessandro Carloni climb aboard as co-director, and the studio quickly agreed.

Carloni is no stranger to the Panda franchise, having served as an animation supervisor on the 2008 original and a story artist on the 2011 sequel.  He was also head of story on recent Oscar nominee How To Train Your Dragon 2. Yuh is best known as the first woman to direct a studio animation project solo when she did so on the first sequel in the Panda series, in addition to her involvement in the first film in the franchise as head of story.

The film, featuring Jack Black as the voice of Po, the titular panda, was recently shifted from its initial December release date to March 2016 bow, ostensibly to avoid competition with the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Panda is now set to open on March 18, 2016.
