Disney recently released the first trailer for the remake of Haunted Mansion, based on the 2003 film starring Eddie Murphy and the ride at Disney World. Some names attached to the film are Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanford, Jaime Lee Curtis, Jared Leto, Owen Wilson, Winona Ryder, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, and Tiffany Haddish.
The plot follows Dawson as a single mother who moves into the titular Haunted Mansion with her nine-year-old son. She enlists the help of Stanford, Haddish, Wilson, and DeVito in various roles to rid the house of ghosts.
The writer and director of Dear White People, Justin Simien, is directing. At Disney’s D23 Expo last year, he revealed his love for the project stems from his time working at Walt Disney World in Florida.
“There was something about that ride that I felt was there in the script. I wanted to be sure all the Easter Eggs are there because I’m a nerd.” There will be multiple references to the ride, including Jared Leto playing the Hatbox Ghost, an iconic character from the attraction, and Jaime Lee Curtis as Madame Leota, the psychic head in the crystal ball.
“Haunted Mansion” is set to hit theatres on July 28. Watch the trailer here.
