Disney released the first look at the new TRON: Ares films currently in production in Vancouver. This highly anticipated film is the newest installment in the TRON franchise.

The TRON series began in 1982 with Disney’s scientific film entitled TRON starring Jeff Bridges, who plays a computer programmer named Kevin Flynn, who gets sucked into the digital world, and must fight his way back. A sequel to the 1982 movie was released in 2010 with TRON: Legacy, where Garrett Hedlund plays Flynn’s son, who, while investigating the disappearance of his father (Jeff Bridges), gets sucked into the same computer world. The film is widely seen as a cult-classic for fans.

The new installment of the TRON series takes a new twist on the original. TRON: Ares follows an A.I. program that is sent to earth on a mission making it the first interaction between A.I. and human beings.

Joachim Rønning is set to direct with Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monoghan, and Gillian Anderson starring in the film.

Joachim Rønning said about directing the new movie, “I’m excited to be a part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world TRON: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook and Steven Lisberger are producing with Russell Allen serving as executive producer.

TRON: Ares is set for a theatrical release in 2025.
