Disney Reigns Over 2018 Box Office, Breaks Records

Disney fared excellently in 2018. Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Incredibles 2 brought in billions for Disney, specifically $3.092 billion domestically and $7.325 billion globally—making records as the second largest global total ever.

Disney is the only studio to exceed $7 billion in a year. Marvel blockbusters Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War brought in $2.049 billion and $1.347 billion worldwide. Pixar’s Incredibles 2 raked in $1.24 billion and Ant-Man and the Wasp didn’t do so bad either ($623.1 million).

The world can forgive Disney for A Wrinkle in Time and Solo: A Star Wars Story, both of which only earned a few million globally. For 2019, one can look forward to several live-action remakes of classic Disney films as follows: Dumbo (March 29), Aladdin (May 24), The Lion King (July 19), and Artemis Fowl (August 9).

Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 are animated favorites released June 21 and November 22. Avengers: Endgame, in theaters April 26, concludes the battle against the almighty Thanos. But before that, Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, will dazzle viewers on March 8. And Avengers isn’t the only franchise wrapping up for the year. Star Wars: Episode IX is set for release in December. Once Disney finalizes its acquisition of Fox, business will continue to grow for the internationally acclaimed studio.
