Disney Announces Plans for Live Action ‘Inspector Gadget’ Reboot Movie

Wowsers!! It looks like Disney is putting the bumbling cyborg detective Inspector Gadget back on duty, because the Mouse just announced plans to create another live-action reboot movie based on Inspector Gadget.

For those who don’t know about Inspector Gadget, the original cartoon started back in 1983 and starred the voice of Get Smart‘s Don Adams as the titular Inspector Gadget, a half man half machine whose body is filled with an endless supply of bizarre gadgets. In each episode Gadget would battle the terrorist organization M.A.D., lead by the unseen but monstrously voiced Dr. Claw (Frank Welker). But Claw’s plans were actually being thwarted by Gadget’s genius niece Penny (Cree Summers) and her dog Brain, with Gadget usually bumbling about the case. In 2015 a CGI reboot series was released.

In the 90’s Disney released a live action movie based on the original show, with Matthew Broderick played Gadget and Dr. Claw played by Rupert Everett. Fans were upset because the movie was so radically different from the cartoon, and critics gave it negative reviews. A direct to video sequel was still released in 2003. Maybe this time we’ll see a better job sticking to the source material than the Broderick film did.

Now Inspector Gadget will be heading back to film with the help of producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich. The script for this reboot will be written by SNL writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. As of now, it’s unknown if this movie will be shown in theaters or if it will Go-Go-Gadget straight to Disney+. Neither a director nor a cast list has been announced for the movie at this time. But we’re certain that Dr. Claw will get you next time, Gadget! Next time!!!!
