It seems like Sony is still struggling to keep a director committed to their upcoming Uncharted film adaptation. Just recently, Collider announced that director Travis Knight would no longer be directing the film, the reason for his departure being result of scheduling conflicts between himself and the movie’s star Tom Holland. Since Holland will be busy with production on the upcoming Spider-Man movie this summer, Sony has been forced to change the production schedule of Uncharted yet again.
Knight, who is best known for directing last year’s Bumblebee, is the latest in a long list of would-be Uncharted directors. Before Knight Dan Trachtenberg was supposed to be the movie’s director, this summer it was announced that he would be leaving the project. And before Trachtenberg Sony had Shawn Levy lined up to direct, and before that, Seth Gordon and David O’Russell.
Sony has not announced who will be replacing Knight as director. Currently we know that Holland will be playing the role of lead character Nathan Drake, and that Mark Wahlberg has been cast as the mentor figure Sully. Who knows who Sony will choose to replace Knight with, and if they will be able to keep them as director this time. Until then, at least we still have last year’s amazing Uncharted fan-film starring Nathan Fillion as Drake.
