Director Teases Sequel to “Happiest Season”

Hulu’s original Christmas movie Happiest Season has been a nice success. It was received well by film critics and Variety reported that the movie broke premier records on Hulu. Even though it is not a perfect movie many members of the LGBTQI community are happy to have a same sex couple as the leads in mainstream Christmas movie and romantic comedy. The plot of Happiest Season follows a lesbian couple named Abbey (Kristen Stewart) and Harper (Mackenzie Davis). Harper brings Abbey to meet her family over Christmas, but unfortunately Harper is still not out to her family so she forces Abbey to pretend to be her straight roommate.

Since the Happiest Season became so popular the movie’s writer and director Clea DuVall has expressed interest in making a sequel. According to Movie Web and Collider the studio has not officially announced any plans to make a sequel, but DuVall would be happy to make another movie especially after witnessing the fans reaction to her film.

Many fans of the movie believed that Abbey should have ended up with Harper’s ex-girlfriend Riley (Aubrey Plaza) instead of Harper, because fans felt that Abbey and Riley had amazing chemistry together. If a sequel does get made it is safe to assume that Riley’s character will be a major part of it. Even if Happiest Season doesn’t get a direct sequel, hopefully it will open the door for other LGBTQI stories.
