Details for ‘Frozen 2’ Revealed at D23 Including New Cast Members

Frozen 2 is easily one of Disney’s most highly anticipated films of 2019. It was expected that good amount of information would be revealed for the film at this weekend’s D23. During the panel for the film, many details have been announced including new intel about the plot and even some new cast members. Now Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown will have roles in the upcoming animated film.

It was announced earlier that both Wood and Brown will be in the film, but more info was not given. Now we know Brown will be playing a new character named Lieutenant Matthias, who is said to assist Anna and Elsa through their journey. Wood will be the mother of both Anna and Elsa in the film known as Queen Iduna. Her role in the first Frozen was much smaller and she was voiced by one of the directors of the film, Jennifer Lee. Now that there is a more recognizable name voicing the character in the film, it can easily be assumed that Elsa’s and Anna’s mother will have a much bigger role in the sequel.

Not only did we learn this info during the D23 showcase, but there were also clips shown. One of the clips was a short sequence of Anna, Kristoff, Elsa and Olaf playing charades. The scene supposedly leads into a musical number showcasing one of the film’s new songs. The song is known as Into the Unknown and dives into Elsa’s past and how she gained her powers, which is a major theme of this sequel. Plus, another thing revealed at the panel was a new poster for the film. The poster is not too much different from the first major one released but it has a different color scheme, being a lot more ominous with a ton of dark blues and bright whites.

Frozen 2 is set for release on November 22nd, 2019.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
