At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Marvel announced during the movie panel that Game of Thrones star Kit Harington will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film The Eternals as non-Eternal Dane Whitman. Kit Harington will join fellow GOT alumni Richard Madden, who will star as Ikaris, among other big-name stars like Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Brian Tyree Henry as Faustus, and Don Lee as Gilgamesh. Gemma Chan, who played a minor role in Marvel’s Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson, will take on the role of Sersi.
The Eternals will be based off the Marvel comic of the same name and is about an ancient race of powerful, super-human-esque cosmic beings who use their powers to promote a life of peace. They are at war with Deviants who, though genetically similar, have quite the opposite goal of inciting war. They clash inevitably and often, sometimes with humanity in the crossfire.
The Eternals is being directed by Chloe Zhao in London and comes from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Kevin Feige, the money-making mastermind behind each Marvel film since Iron Man 3 came out in 2013, is producing. The film has a release date of November 6, 2020, which marks the beginning of Marvel’s phase four.
