‘Despicable Me 3’ Trailer Reveals Gru’s Golden Haired Twin Brother

Oh despicable brother, where art thou?

Our favorite super villain turned secret agent hero meets his newly discovered golden haired twin brother in the new trailer for Universal and Illumination Entertainment’s animated sequel Despicable Me 3.

In the sequel, Gru falls on hard times after being let go from spy work for failing a mission to capture the 80’s obsessed, shoulder pad wearing, spiky hair donning super villain Balthazar Bratt, played by Trey Parker — in a surprisingly child friendly role given his South Park and The Book of Mormon background. While struggling to get by, Gru, Lucy, their adopted daughters, and (of course) the minions get an unexpected invitation from Gru’s long lost twin brother Dru. The vastly wealthy Dru is still very much in the family super villain business and invites Gru for a Fast and Furious-esque “one last ride” of a diamond heist. Minion-fueled hijinks are sure to ensue.

Despicable Me 3 continues the animated blockbuster franchise after 2015’s spin-off film, Minions, and will reunite Steve Carell (The Big Short, The Office), Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters, The Martian), and Russell Brand (Trolls, Rock of Ages) for a new family friendly dive into villainy, espionage, and minion gibberish. The film is set for release on June 30th.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
