Amidst SAG-AFTRA hitting the picket lines, Deadpool 3 has halted production, Deadline reports. As far as projects halted by the strike goes, Deadpool 3 is currently the biggest one.
Excitement for the film had started building recently. Jennifer Garner is confirmed to appear in the movie as Elektra, a role she’s not played in 20 years, since 2003’s Daredevil. Along with Garner’s return, Hugh Jackman will appear in the film as none other than Wolverine. Jackman played the character from 2000’s X-Men to 2017’s Logan. In a set picture shown off recently, Jackman can be seen alongside the merc with a mouth, sporting a fully comic accurate yellow jumpsuit.
Directed by Shawn Levy, and produced by Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Marvel president Kevin Feige, the film was originally slated to release in November of 2024, but when other Marvel projects saw delays and set backs due to the WGA strike, the anticipated third installment was moved up to May 2024.
Members of SAG-AFTRA began their strike on July 14th. Union president Fran Drescher, and executive director/chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland were on the lines Friday morning. The team started outside Netflix offices from 9-9:40 AM, moved to Paramount from 10-10:40, to Warner Bros. from 11:10-11:45, and finally, to Disney from noon to 12:45.
